Life is full of memories from the past that make us smile –  wins, accomplishments, and victory – whereas others can leave us empty, sad, and questioning our self worth. Specifically, when we replay lost sales, events, relationships, damaged trust, embarrassing moments, or traumatic events.  We replay events like we are pressing the ‘rewind’ button, expecting things to be different.  We can manage this in one of two ways: constructively, looking at events as lessons, sources of strength, or blessings in disguise. But we can also look at these events destructively.

Self destruction never works.  Guilt and shame can steer us towards doing things to numb our pain and help us ‘escape’ the noise in our mind. This shows up as addiction, reckless behavior, and rebellion.

I have spent time in this dark place, as a wild and crazy reckless teenager, a way of acting out, after my near death experience of almost being killed by a drunk driver.

Later in my life, I have chosen to look at events of the past constructively – it changed everything for the better.  I have come to appreciate and understand this behavior as a Success Habits Coach today…

What are SECRETS and how do they keepus from achieving our SELF WORTH?

1. SECRETS: We do things that we keep private. This could be addictions, shopping binges, habits, substances, complacent, laziness, abusive behaviors. We use substances or behavior as a way to escape noise in our mind. We avoid processing guilt and shame.

1. LET GO AND FORGIVE. Make peace with the past. Forgive and find the blessings and meanings in events. Lost a sale? Ask yourself ‘what did I learn?’  How this make me stronger and wiser? Courage and determination is an example of the gift from my near death experience.  Why are you choosing to NOT let go? It is usually our need to control and be right…to the point we get obsessive; the solution?  LET – IT – GO!

I once heard a coach say ‘STOP TALKING ABOUT IT!’  Great advice!

SELF WORTH allows us to release the need to impress and allows us to be real.

We take personal responsibility and we are accountable. If you are struggling with the past, secrets, or guilt and shame: having the support of someone else can make all the difference in the world!
