Habit 5 to More Sales and Success: Building Self and Sales Confidence
A big lesson learned from my sales career, and also remains a secret to success today that I focus on and follow consistently is: mastering the 'inner game' we play in sales and success. At one time in my career, I recall hearing 'do more, and you will win.' I have always been a believer that activity equals results.
There is no way around doing the work, and we can always work smarter. However, the key to ongoing success is also the mastery of self confidence. In the sales world, I call this 'sales confidence.' Reflecting on what it takes to go from an average to a star performer, there is a secret ingredient most often overlooked in training training and critical to going to the next level: confidence.
Confidence is a key ingredient of success in both sales and personal growth. It moves us forward, enabling us to take risks and seek out opportunities. Whether you're selling a product or presenting an idea, confidence is crucial. Research has also revealed that our customers and prospects want to work with individuals who are confident. Here are some strategies to build that vital confidence:
Keys to Building Confidence:
1. Preparation and Knowledge: Thorough understanding of your product or service builds a strong foundation. When you know your material inside and out, you can present with assurance and handle questions gracefully.
2. Setting Goals: Start with small, achievable goals to gradually build confidence. Celebrate each success, using it as a stepping stone for larger challenges.
3. Positive Self-Talk: Keep a positive inner dialogue. Replace self-doubt with affirmations that reinforce your capabilities and potential. When you hear the negative self talk say 'thank you for sharing!'
4. Continuous Learning: Keep enhancing your skills through workshops, courses, books, and feedback. The more you learn, the more confident you'll become in your abilities. The best investment you will make is in yourself.
5. Learn to Correct and Continue: Ask for help. Get coaching. Simulate sales scenarios with colleagues or mentors to practice responses and improve adaptability.
Biggest Mistakes That Decrease Confidence:
- Fear of Rejection: Allowing rejection to define your self-worth can erode confidence. Sales and success are a numbers game. Do not take it personally.
- Comparing Yourself to Others: Focusing on others' achievements rather than your own progress can be detrimental. Everyone's journey is unique.
- Avoiding Challenges: Steering clear of challenging situations can prevent growth. Embrace them as opportunities to build learn, grow, and build resilience.
By focusing on these keys and avoiding common pitfalls, you can enhance your self and sales confidence, opening doors to success and fulfillment.
