I began studying human potential and self development 34 years ago, starting out as a college student at KU, attending a seminar called ‘Lifespring.’ I often heard this: if you are bored with your life or feeling ‘stuck’ – it means you don’t have a big enough goal (B.H.A.G. ‘big hairy audacious goal) or dream!
I once had a dream of teaching an aerobics class. My problem though was I didn’t have the confidence to get up in front of a group of people. I made that goal bigger than my fear, and I taught aerobics classes for 20+ years! Another goal was to make my sales quota – after my best year – I faced my worst year in sales. My job was on the line! I forced myself to be determined everyday and I hired a sales coach to help me get back on track. It worked! And that year inspired me to write my book ‘From Zero to Sales Hero.’ and dreams give us something to be excited about!
Think about the times you set goals and dreams and may not have realized it: thinking about ‘what you want to be when you grow up,’ taking a vacation, winning an award, or getting special recognition at your workplace. Goals and dreams give us something to get excited about, something to look forward to and something to inspire us to be the BEST version of ourself!
From studying the impact of thought habits on goals, I read this quote from Og Mandino, ‘The Greatest Salesman in the World:”
I will persist until I succeed, Scroll 3
“I will never consider defeat and I will remove from my vocabulary such words and phrases as quit, cannot, unable, impossible, out of the question, improbable, failure, unworkable, hopeless, and retreat; for they are the words of fools. I will avoid despair but if this disease of the mind should infect me then I will work on in despair. I will toil and I will endure.”
What I have learned about the power of persistence in goal setting:
Dont make January 1 the day I set goals for the year – set them monthly, weekly, and daily
Make my goals visible every day – create a vision board, or write a post it note that I see everyday
If you miss a goal date, dont quit, simply reset the goal date
Set S.M.A.R.T. goals – Specific, Measurable, Realistic, and Timely (deadline)
Get accountable – get support; a coach, mentor, or coaching group can help you achieve anything!
I think of you as a success minded friend, and I am so excited and passionate about sharing my mission with you: to work with sales and success driven stars to crush their results so they can live a life of PEACE and leave a life of STRESS –to be the BEST version of THEMSELF!
I look forward to sharing tips to building SUCCESS habits over the coming days! Welcome to the journey of being the best version of yourself!
